What is Clutch?

The clutch transmits the thrust from the engine to the wheels in manual transmission vehicles. In this way, it ensures efficient use of the engine's thrust. At the same time, when a certain rpm level is reached while the vehicle is driving, gear changes are made thanks to this system.

In short; Clutch is a system that allows gear changes in automobiles. It enables the gear change to be made by cutting the connection between the gearbox and the engine. At the same time, the part between the engine and the transmission is called the clutch.

What Are the Functions of the Clutch?

The duties of the clutch are as follows:

  • To gradually transmit the movement of the engine to the wheels while starting the vehicle. In this way, it ensures that the vehicle moves smoothly.
  • Disconnecting the engine and powertrain systems when necessary.
  • Interrupting the transmission of motion to the gearbox when shifting while the vehicle is running. Therefore, it provides an easy gear change.
