IMT

IMT was established in 1947 as the Central Foundry. In 1949, however, a new company, the Metal Institute, was formed by the merger of the Central Foundry and four other local companies. In 1954, it was renamed IMT.

IMT, which started the production of the tractor of its own design in 1965, realized the largest annual production in its history with 42 tractors and 35 machines in 1988.

Significant changes were made in production between 1990 and 2000 due to economic conditions. In this period, a long-term cooperation was signed with the Perkins company and in 2005 the first engines that comply with EU 2000/25/EC standards were produced.

In 2012 IMT introduced a new S Series. In this period, new generation tractors were introduced to the market with purchasing power.

It stopped production of IMT in August 2015 and was subsequently acquired by the Indian manufacturing company TAFE in April 2018.

Popular Products of IMT

The most popular of IMT tractors are IMT 539 and IMT 533. These tractors have become popular in Yugoslavia due to their reliability, high maneuverability and easy handling.

The 5200 – 5500 models were among the ten largest tractors on the world market in the 1980s and 1990s. Features of this series;

  • Hydrostatic power steering
  • V12 diesel FAP and Mercedes – Benz Engine
  • 4x4 chassis
  • 500 horsepower
  • Synchronous transmission gear

The IMT 555, on the other hand, has become popular thanks to its engine's ability to run for 2000 hours without the need for any renewal.

What is Steering Wheel?

Steering is an important system found in many vehicles. Because it is a system that enables the vehicle to be turned in the desired direction. At the same time, this system is formed by the combination of a series of parts.

It usually looks like a simple circle. However, today, the signal system contains buttons to manage tasks such as the sound system.

What is Power Steering?

Power steering has become very popular in recent years. The reason for this is the lightness and comfort felt especially when cornering. Because the hydraulic system allows the steering wheel to be turned much easier.

Power steering works with hydraulic fluid. That is why it is called hydraulic. When it was first used, it was only found in luxury vehicles, but over time it has become an indispensable system in all automobiles.

What Are the Parts of the Steering Wheel?

In our factory, steering parts are produced in accordance with the IMT brand. The parts of the steering wheel are as follows:

  • Steering Shaft: It transfers the rotational movement of the steering wheel to the gear box. There are two types of spindles. These; non-adjustable type spindle and adjustable spindle. The shaft can be in one piece or it is usually in two pieces.
  • Steering Wheel: It is connected to the steering shaft. The steering wheel determines the driving direction by turning the shaft. Therefore, it is the part that the driver uses to control the vehicle. It allows the driver to turn easily for a good driving and cornering performance.
  • Rods and tie rod ends: Transmits motion from the steering box to the wheels to steer the wheels. During a turn, the inner wheels must turn at a narrower angle and the outer wheels at a wider angle. If this order is disturbed, the wheel must be adjusted. Commonly heard wheel alignment is related to the steering wheel turning the wheels at the right angle.
  • Gear Box: The gearbox converts the movement of the steering wheel into linear motion. Thanks to the gear ratio, it reduces the turning force and increases the turning force applied to the wheels.
  • Shock Absorber: Also called shock absorber. It is used to reduce effects such as impact from the wheel in heavy vehicles and off-road vehicles.
