The most important feature that distinguishes cars with manual transmission from cars with automatic transmission is the clutch system. The factor that most influences the reason for choosing a vehicle when purchasing a vehicle is the automatic or manual transmission option. It is one of the elements that allows the vehicle to move smoothly in cars with manual transmission. Therefore, its quality is very important.

What is Clutch?

It is the system that transmits the thrust from the engine to the wheels in vehicles with manual transmission. This system ensures efficient use of the engine's thrust. When the vehicle reaches a certain rpm level while driving, it is possible to change gears thanks to this system.

Clutch Parts

The system consists of 4 different parts:

  • Clutch bearing
  • Flywheel connected to the engine
  • Clutch thrust
  • Clutch lining

In our HARS Tractor factory, the spare parts that make up the clutch system are produced with superior quality.

Working Principle of Clutch System

This system works according to the friction force principle. It is also a gear system. When the car is started, the pressure and pad are activated. There is a ball between these two parts. When the clutch is pressed, the ball exerts pressure on the clutch and the pad is released. In this way, the gear lever is moved. Therefore, gear change is enabled in this way.

Duties of Clutch

The clutch has various functions in the vehicle:

  • Disconnecting the connection between the engine and power transmission systems when necessary
  • To gradually transmit the movement of the engine to the wheels while starting the vehicle. In this way, to ensure that the vehicle moves smoothly.
  • Interrupting the transmission of motion to the gearbox while shifting while the vehicle is running. Therefore, it is easy to change gears.

Does the Clutch System Have a Certain Lifespan?

As with many parts in automobiles, the clutch also has a certain life. The lining is subject to wear after long-term use. Therefore, it loses its grip. For this reason, it is necessary to regularly check the clutch condition of the pedal. At the same time, the height of the pedal should be checked.

If you fail to do these checks, which should be done at regular intervals, your pad may be damaged. It can also cause the power transmission between the engine and the wheels to end. Therefore, you should not neglect the controls of the clutch.

How to Tell if Lining Is Worn?

There are several clues to help you understand when the clutch lining is worn:

  • Experiencing excessive vibration during the first movement.
  • Pedal starting to harden.
  • Decreased performance.
  • Hard gear shifts and friction noise from gears at the same time.
  • Clutch starts to engage higher than normal.

In order to understand whether the clutch is damaged or not, you need to know and understand the vehicle you are using. If you are not aware of the worn and damaged clutch and if you continue to use it, as mentioned above, the power transfer between the engine and the wheels may end while driving.

There are some points to be considered in the use of the clutch. In this way, you have the opportunity to extend the life of the clutch.

Considerations in Clutch Usage

  • Care should be taken not to take off with half clutch on slopes.
  • No shifting should be made between reverse gear and forward gear before the vehicle comes to a complete stop.
  • Continuous pressure should not be applied to the clutch.
  • Avoid using the clutch pedal while braking.
  • Instead of waiting in the clutch and first gear at a red light, wait in neutral gear.
  • Maintenance should be done regularly. Because the clutch system is a system that gets damaged over time.
  • It should not be used except when needed.

The above-mentioned issues can prolong the life of the clutch. Therefore, if you do not comply with the points to be considered, you will shorten the life of the clutch.

Also, you should make sure that the spare parts used in the replacement of the clutch are reliable and of high quality. In this way, you can use your vehicle more efficiently.
