Before buying a tractor, you can have the best tractor by paying attention to some elements and making the necessary controls.

Things to Consider Before Buying a Tractor

Tractors are the only machines that are at the focal point of agriculture and play a very important role in our access to food. The fact that they are so important and valuable requires careful research before purchasing. In our article, you can find important points that you should pay attention to before buying a tractor.

Things to Consider Before Buying a Tractor

The factors to consider before purchasing a tractor are as follows:

Engine

The engine is the most important part of a machine. Because it provides power for the tractor to do its job.

The engine can be run on petrol or diesel fuel. However, most tractors run on diesel engines. The power of a tractor measured by horsepower varies according to the work to be done. For this reason, you should choose a tractor with the engine you need.

Transmission

After the engine, the most important part is the transmission of a tractor. Because the performance of the tractor depends on its transmission. Tractor with hydrostatic transmission is recognized as the best in the field.

Hydrostatic transmissions have foot pedals that allow the user to gain full and easy control over the speed of the tractor with a smooth ride.

Tractor Parts

If you are going to use the tractor for farm work such as raising crops in the field, you will need to attach various tools to the tractor. One of the most useful is the three-point hitch, which adds a hydraulic lift to raise and lower attached equipment. There are also simple drawbar hangers and special hangers. Therefore, you should determine your needs and choose accordingly.

PTO

PTO transfers the power of the tractor to the machine or vehicle. The power transmission is completed by connecting the drive shaft from the machine to the PTO of the tractor. So PTO is one of the most used features of a tractor to complete agricultural work.

Tires

Tires are one of the most important parts of a tractor. Heavy fluid adds more weight to the tires and helps increase the balancing power of a tractor.

Things to Check When Buying a Tractor

The points that must be checked before purchasing a tractor are as follows:

  • You should carefully inspect the engine, transmission, bodywork and interior of the tractor.
  • The engine of the tractor with a bad exterior may be neglected. Therefore, you should definitely check the engine.
  • The engine must be tested for power. While driving at high speed in medium gears, sudden braking should be done and the color of the smoke coming out of the exhaust of the engine, whether it misfires and whether there is any difference in its sound should be checked. If there is blue exhaust smoke, the engine is burning oil, if it misfires, there may be a problem in the piston ring and cylinders. If there are different noises in the engine, there may be a play in the bearings.
  • It should be checked whether there is an oil leak in the gearbox and the engine and whether the engine blows or not.
  • It should be checked whether the oil is leaking when the oil dipstick of the engine is removed and the gas is pressed on the tractor.
  • If the engine speed does not decrease when braking at high speed in middle gear to control the clutch, there is a problem with the clutch.
  • You can test the braking system by braking while driving on a flat road. Tire tracks must be even. If not, the pads may be worn or the drums may be out of alignment.
  • If there is more than 10 cm of play when the steering wheel is turned left and right while the tractor is stationary, there may be a problem with the steering box or the tie rods.
  • It should be checked whether the control buttons and lights on the instrument panel are working.
  • If possible, it should be checked by a mechanic when purchasing a tractor.
  • Check the wheels, tire size and whether there are any problems with the rims.
  • It should be checked whether the assembly of additional parts is available.
  • It should be checked whether the PTO characteristics of the tractor are suitable for the equipment to be used.
  • It should be checked whether it is suitable for agricultural equipment such as plows, harrows and trailers.
