What is Clutch?
The most important feature that distinguishes manual cars from automatic cars is the presence of the clutch system. In addition, the factor that most affects the reason for choosing a vehicle when purchasing a vehicle is the manual or automatic transmission option. Clutch is one of the elements that allows the car to move smoothly in cars with manual transmission. Therefore, clutch quality is very important.
The clutch transmits the thrust from the engine to the wheels in manual transmission vehicles. The clutch system ensures efficient use of the engine's thrust. In addition, thanks to this system, gear changes can be made when the vehicle reaches a certain rpm level while driving.
Whar are Clutch Parts?
Clutch consists of 4 different parts. These parts are;
- Clutch plate
- Clutch bearing
- Flywheel connected to the engine
- Clutch lining
How to Tell if Clutch Worn?
You have to catch several clues before you can tell if the clutch is worn. These;
- Clutch starts to engage higher than normal
- Experiencing excessive vibration at the first take-off
- Hard gear shifts and friction noise from gears at the same time
- Decreased performance
- Pedal starts to harden
If you think that the clutch is worn, you must make the necessary checks and take the necessary precautions. The parts used in the clutch system are very important in terms of driving safety. Therefore, you should make sure that the spare parts used are of high quality.
There are some points that you should pay attention to in use in order not to damage the clutch. By paying attention to these issues, the life of the clutch can be extended.
Considerations for Clutch Usage
The things you should pay attention to when using the clutch are as follows:
- You should avoid using the clutch pedal while braking.
- You should take care not to take off with half clutch on slopes.
- You should not apply constant pressure to the clutch.
- You should not switch between reverse gear and forward gear before the vehicle comes to a complete stop.
- You should have the clutch serviced regularly. Because the clutch system can be damaged over time.
- Instead of waiting in first gear with your foot on the clutch at a red light, you should wait in neutral.
- You should not use the clutch except when needed.
You can extend the life of the clutch system with the above mentioned points.
